Mario Ortíz did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Montreal Machine from being beaten, 5-4, to the Bakersfield Nobles at Jerome Grounds. Ortíz went 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The loss makes Montreal 16-24.

The Nobles got a clutch hit from catcher Vern Gordon. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Nobles.
