Sergio Carrasco pitched a gem to lead Sacramento to victory over the Syracuse Starks, 6-1. Carrasco, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up no walks. The Redlegs saw their win-loss record go to 24-18. At the same time, the Starks fell to 17-25.

Tied up with the Starks in the top of the fourth inning, the Redlegs got a boost from third baseman Sandross Bañaga. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Bañaga saw a first pitch changeup from Jorge Vázquez and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Sacramento on top, 1-0.

Said losing manager Gabriel Madrigal: "It's very easy to sit in an ivory tower and critique the pitching, but the bottom line is we need to score runs."
