The Gwinnett Guinea Pigs got their 2061 season off and running with a win over the Gulf Coast Turbeaus at Experimental Stadium. The final score was 5-2. Gwinnett pitcher Cody Beasley, in particular, had a fine performance. Matt Griffin finished the game for Gwinnett and earned his 1st save.

Alfredo Guevara had a big run-scoring double for the Guinea Pigs in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Gwinnett leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 21-year old right-handed pitcher Terry Ward and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Guinea Pigs ahead, 3-1.

"What's not to like about a win?" said Guevara.
