Nobles Get Past Syracuse, 3-2
|
The Bakersfield Nobles did just enough to sneak past the Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys, 3-2, at The Zoo in Syracuse. Bakersfield pitcher Cordell Dawson, in particular, had a standout performance. Dawson, the winner, moves to 6-2. He threw 7.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 3 walks. Ed Dodman was credited with the save for Bakersfield, his 13th of the season.
The result might have been different, had it not been for 27-year old third baseman Bobby Pennington. Pennington had a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Nobles ahead, 3-2. For the game, Pennington had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Tough loss," said Syracuse manager Ramón Barrueco. "But that's how the cookie crumbles."
The victory gives the Nobles a record of 29-24.
