The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids beat the Boston Patriots, 8-2, at Dunkin Donuts Park. Northern Virginia second baseman Jason Zimmerman had an outstanding performance. He hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Craig Culver, who finished 5th in the PL in innings pitched with 147.1 last year, was the winner. He's now 1-0. The loser was Roy Roberts. The loss drops Boston to 4-1.

Michaelsoft Binbows had a big 2-run home run for the Rainbow Mermaids in the top of the third inning. With Northern Virginia leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a changeup from Marx Lieftink, who finished 3rd in the PL in ERA with 2.66 in 2053, and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Rainbow Mermaids on top, 3-0.

"We'll build on this win," said Zimmerman.
