Rainbeaus Keep Streak Alive with Late Rally
|
Danny Woodward did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Sacramento Redlegs from being beaten, 8-5, to the Kansas Rainbeaus at Wichita Field. Woodward was 3 for 3 with 3 singles and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winner in relief was Jake Howell. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. He now owns a record of 3-0. Kansas, at 53-28, holds down first place in the Premier AAA.
The game came to a climactic end in the bottom of the ninth. With Kansas trailing 5-4, Nathan Dooley delivered the big blow, hitting a fastball from Miguel Ortíz for a grand slam home run. Just like that, the Rainbeaus had a walk-off win.
"We're leading the horse race," said Dooley. "But we're not yet in the home stretch."
