Squirrel Monkeys Handed 2-1 Loss
|
The Jersey City Tritons claimed a close win over the Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys, due in large part to Stanton Maxwell. The Jersey City left-hander pitched a great game to secure the 2-1 win. The winner was Maxwell. He threw 7.1 innings of 6-hit ball. The loser was Alfredo Pérez. Earning his 8th save for Jersey City was Steffen Benton.
It could have been a different outcome for Jersey City, had it not been for Panas Rubanenko, the 26-year old right fielder . Rubanenko contributed a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to put Jersey City up, 2-0.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Jersey City skipper John Sirica.
Today's win puts Jersey City at 29-52, while Syracuse falls to 45-36.
