Matthews Excels, But Nobles Win
The Bakersfield Nobles withstood an impressive performance by Ellenburg designated hitter Bob Matthews to defeat the Fighting Dachshunds, 13-12, at Dog Park in Ellenburg. Matthews went 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 6 RBI and scoring twice. Bakersfield pitcher Cordell Dawson earned the win, hiking his record to 2-7. Darryl Brady suffered the loss. Bakersfield now sports a record of 38-43.

Bakersfield used the clutch hitting of Koen Weegerink to snag the win. The shortstop drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Nobles ahead, 13-12. It was his lone hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.

"Glad to get this win," said Weegerink. "But we need to keep playing at a high level."
