Baton Rouge Makes It 9 Straight with 5-3 Win
|
The Baton Rouge Brass withstood a fine game by Jersey City right fielder Panas Rubanenko at Brass Field, to upend the Tritons, 5-3. Rubanenko went 2-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Baton Rouge pitcher Wayne Meyrick earned the win, hiking his record to 2-0. Alberto Martínez suffered the loss. Baton Rouge has run its win streak to 9 in a row.
Bill Barnes went 1 for 3 with a hit by pitch for Baton Rouge. The 27-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring hit-by-pitch off Alberto Martínez. It was his 12th RBI of the season.
"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Barnes.
