Flyers Rally to Nose Past Bakersfield
|
The Bakersfield Nobles could not turn a fine performance from pitcher David Sullivan into a win. Instead, the Pennsauken Flyers prevailed, 4-3. Sullivan threw 6.1 innings allowing 3 runs. The winner in relief was Irving Rascal. He is now 3-0. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2.1 innings. The Flyers now have a record of 49-39 with the win over Bakersfield.
Had Ty Riese not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Riese hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Flyers.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Bakersfield skipper Timmy Appeldoorn, "and it cost us."
