The Starks grabbed a win, 4-3, at Jersey City Grounds, overcoming a fine effort from Jersey City pitcher Trent Troubridge. Troubridge went 5 innings and allowed no runs. Syracuse reliever Bob Porter picked up the win, raising his record to 6-2. Steffen Benton was tagged with the loss. Earning his 10th save for Syracuse was Vincent Jones.

The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Mike Hancock came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Jersey City pitcher Steffen Benton, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Syracuse on top, 4-3.

"I like winning," Hancock told the Syracuse Chronicle. "I may joke around, but when it comes down to it, winning is the most important thing."

The Syracuse win streak is now 3 games.
