Toronto pitcher Juan Cruz had a large part in his team beating the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 4-3. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The win was credited to Dennis Jones in relief. His record improves to 3-0. Quinton Barnard took the loss. Toronto is in 8th place in the Premier League with a record of 23-29.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Juan Suarze? The 30-year old left fielder Suarze stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put Toronto up, 4-3. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"I made some pitches when I had to," said Cruz.
