Patriots Knock Off Rainbow Mermaids at Dunkin Donuts Park
Behind a solid performance from catcher Matt Craig, the Boston Patriots defeated the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 9-6. Craig went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Patriots. Eric Buchanan, who finished 3rd in the PL in ERA with 2.53 in 2059, was the winning pitcher. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. Yong-hyun Kim, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 15th save.

The Rainbow Mermaids had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Patriots going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old second baseman Ali Aghamirzaeijenaghard came to the plate. Aghamirzaeijenaghard hit a 3-run home run on a 2-0 fastball from Northern Virginia hurler Danny Landry. It was Aghamirzaeijenaghard's 9th home run of the year.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Aghamirzaeijenaghard told the Boston Herald.
