Nuevo Mexico Mariachis starter Albert Wallace was in fine form against the Virginia Beach Whales at Mariachi Band Shell, leading his team to a win, 5-2. Wallace, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 8 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 2 walks. Keith Medina recorded the save, his 1st.

Nuevo Mexico first baseman Earnest Ellison contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a cutter into center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 2nd hit of the season and put the Mariachis ahead, 2-0.

"I felt we were ready to go," said Nuevo Mexico manager Steve Bryan. "Our pregame was pretty good."

The win puts Nuevo Mexico at 2-0.
