Chesapeake got a valiant performance from pitcher Dale Bernard, but it wasn't enough to beat the Virginia Beach Whales. Virginia Beach won the game, 8-3. Bernard threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Miguel Martínez picked up the win, lifting his record to 2-0 on the season. He struck out 5 and walked 1 in 7 innings, while yielding 3 runs. Earning his 1st save of the year was Cristovão Mineiro.
Germán García came through with a big-time hit for Virginia Beach. The left fielder smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 4-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," García told the Virginia Beach Citizen.
Virginia Beach is now 3-4.
