Richland starter Chris Murton pitched well against the Asheville Highlanders at Asheville Park. The right-hander led his team to a win, 3-2. Justin Joseph snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-0 on the season. Luis Villarreal suffered the loss. The win gives Richland a record of 6-4.
Richland used the timely hitting of Mark Woods to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rails on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Woods told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
