Northern Virginia pitcher Pablo Valentín had a large part in his team beating the Mexico City Blue Demons, 3-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Picking up the save was Juan Carlos Mejía, his 15th. The win elevated the Rainbow Mermaids to 38-23.

One pivotal at-bat came in the top of the fourth with one out. With runners on 1st and 2nd and the Blue Demons trailing 2-0, Pablo Valentín needed to make a quality pitch. He threw a full count slider to retire Joe Raymond, who struck out.
