Ponies Sunk by Coeur
|
The St. Louis Coeur earned a close win over the Kingston Ponies, thanks in part to Dan Hewitt. The St. Louis right-hander, who is tied for 5th in the 3L in quality starts with 6, played a key role in the 3-1 victory. Hewitt, now 4-4, was the winner. In 8.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. By defeating Kingston, the 10th-place Coeur improved to 19-22.
In the bottom of the first inning, right fielder Chia-ch'ing Chen had a 2-run home run for St. Louis. It was his 7th home run of the season and put the Coeur on top, 2-0.
"We came in and got the job done. That's what it's all about in this business," said Hewitt.
