In a low-scoring contest between the Thunder Bay Northern Lions BC and the St. Louis Coeur, Andrew Wilkes-Krier, who is tied for 3rd in the 3L in quality starts with 7, proved to be the difference. The Thunder Bay left-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Northern Lions BC win. The win went to Steve Hale in relief, making him now 6-2. Don Jackson took the loss for St. Louis. With this game in the books, Thunder Bay is 23-24, St. Louis 23-24.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the eighth, with the game tied, Kenny Simpson was at the plate when Thunder Bay scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Northern Lions BC to go in front, 2-1.
"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Wilkes-Krier. "Successful pitchers do it."
