Rainbow Mermaids Snatch Late Win
|
Due in large part to designated hitter José Mondragon, the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids sunk the Boston Patriots, 6-4. Mondragon went 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Quinton Barnard notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. His record now sits at 1-0. Northern Virginia sits in third place in the Premier League at 33-30.
Had Mondragon not come through in the top of the ninth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Mondragon hit a 3-run home run. The Rainbow Mermaids took the lead, 6-4, and never looked back.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Northern Virginia manager David Lister.
