The Detroit Rock City tallied a win at Detroit Stadium, throttling the Charleston Battery, 3-1. Starting pitcher Bill Joseph was a big reason for his team's success. Joseph yielded 1 run over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 5, and struck out 2. His record improves to 4-5. Picking up the save was 27-year old left-handed pitcher Frank Gagnon.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Rock City had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when designated hitter Joe Madden hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Gary Mosley and made the score 2-1, Rock City. "We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Madden told a Detroit Daily News reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
Detroit currently is in 11th place in the Third League at 23-34.
