Rainbow Mermaids Win at Home, 2-1
|
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids picked up a win at Atlantica, topping the Baltimore Bullets, 2-1. On the mound for Northern Virginia was left-hander Wes Johnston. He played a principal role in the triumph. Northern Virginia reliever Wes Johnston got the win, raising his record to 9-2. Frank Vetter was tagged with the loss. Juan Carlos Mejía earned the save for Northern Virginia, his 17th.
Northern Virginia took control in the bottom of the seventh. With no one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, José Mondragon hit a run-scoring single to make it 2-1, Rainbow Mermaids.
"You have to trust that what you're doing is going to produce results," said Johnston.
With the win, Northern Virginia upped its record to 40-24.
