The Oakland Oaks had to overcome a fine effort from Colorado pitcher Sloppy Thurston to win, 4-3, at Grazing Hills. Thurston went 7.1 innings and allowed 1 run. Alex Rodríguez earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. Oakland is now 29-33, while Colorado is 45-17.
Lima, Peru-born Raúl Vega came through in the clutch. In the top of the ninth, with the bases loaded and the Oaks trailing 3-2, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Oakland on top.
