Cape Coral beat Buckhead at 5 Paces Park, eking out a 5-4 win. The triumph was primarily due to center fielder Salmon P. Chase. He was 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Buckhead has now lost 5 in a row.
Had Chase not come through in the top of the ninth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Chase hit a 2-run home run. The Hurricanes took the lead, 5-3, and never looked back.
"I warned the team before the game," losing manager Kerry Hofmeister told reporters, "that I'm wearing the same pair of undies until we win."
