The Toledo Stingers downed the New Orleans Voodoo, 15-0, at The Voodoo Lounge. The Stingers were led by Bob Matthews. Matthews went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4. Gilbert Owen got the win, improving to 1-1. He held the Voodoo to no runs on 4 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 9 and walking 1. The Stingers, now 5-2, have played some good baseball in the early going.
Toledo used the hitting of David Ruíz to pick up the win. The catcher clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Stingers on top, 11-0. For the game, Ruíz had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We didn't help ourselves, it's as simple as that," said losing manager Chase Sims.
