Ponies Spill Hurricanes, 7-1

Riding the 2-hit performance of the 25-year old catcher Júlio Gil, the Kingston Ponies stopped the Cape Coral Hurricanes, 7-1. Vernon Álvarez snagged the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits over 3.1 innings. He's now 3-5 on the season. Sam van Elswijk earned the save for Kingston, his 1st of the year.
The Ponies got a big at-bat from right fielder Freddie Morse. For the game, Morse was 2-4 with 2 doubles. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 8th double of the season gave Kingston a 2-1 lead.
Said losing manager Greg Diersing: "The list goes on and on of things we just flat out didn't do."
Kingston, at 23-46, occupies last place in the Third League.
