Dayton Earns 6-5 Win

The Dayton Dirty Reds overcame a pretty good performance by Colorado left fielder Freek Derksen, beating the Billy Goats, 6-5, at Lang Park. Derksen went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Jeff Vázquez earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. His record is now 4-3. With this game in the books, Dayton is 32-44, Colorado 39-37.
Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 33-year old first baseman Luc Leroux had a chance to be the hero. Colorado pitcher Bryce Poindexter wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Leroux hit a sacrifice fly. The Dirty Reds had themselves a thrilling win.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Leroux told a Dayton Observer reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
