Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Coeur
The Oakland Oaks got a sterling performance from pitcher Phil Murphy, but the St. Louis Coeur still prevailed, 5-3. Murphy threw 6.1 innings allowing 1 run. Their 39-42 record puts the Coeur 6th in the Third League.

With a runner on 1st and no one out in the top of the eighth inning, designated hitter Yoshihito Takeuchi delivered big for the Coeur. St. Louis was trailing 3-1 when he belted a 2-run home run.

"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Takeuchi told the St. Louis Herald. "But we take nothing for granted."
