Oaks Take Down Divided, 5-4
|
The Oakland Oaks topped the D.C. Divided, 5-4, in Menard's Third League action at Washington Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Oakland pitcher and Orlando, Florida, native Alfonso Sánchez. The winner was Sánchez. He threw 5.2 innings allowing 3 runs. The loser was Gerald Porter. Oakland currently is in 9th place in the Third League at 37-47.
Oakland used a clutch at-bat from Floyd Waddell to capture the win. The second baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Oaks ahead, 5-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"I'm proud of the way we took care of business and got the 'W' today," Waddell told the Oakland Gazette. "Whatever it takes."
