Thunder Beaten By Rainbow Mermaids, 7-3
|
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids and Toronto Thunder.
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids picked up a win at Atlantica, downing the Toronto Thunder, 7-3. On the mound for Northern Virginia was left-hander Wes Johnston, who played a pivotal role in the win. Johnston got the win, improving to 5-6. He gave up 5 hits and walked 2 over 6 innings. He allowed 1 run.
António García had a big 2-run double for the Rainbow Mermaids in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Northern Virginia leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a slider from Devin Hancock, who is tied for 2nd in the PL with a 2.69 ERA, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 10th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Rainbow Mermaids ahead, 4-1.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Northern Virginia manager David Lister.
Northern Virginia is now 34-33, Toronto 38-29.
