Hurricanes Need Extra Innings to Top Leviathan, 4-3
|
The Cape Coral Hurricanes faced a tough opponent in Nova Scotia pitcher Steve Sanford, but found a way to pull out the victory at The Dungeon in Halifax by a final score of 4-3 in 10 innings. Sanford went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs. Cape Coral reliever Victor Jones picked up the win to move to 4-3. Sib Gijbels suffered the loss. With the win, Cape Coral pushed its record to 46-41.
In the top of the tenth, Miguel Núñez, who is tied for 3rd in the 3L with a .561 slugging percentage, delivered for Cape Coral. That's when he belted a solo home run, putting the Hurricanes up, 4-3. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a climactic one.
"This was one of those 'not to be denied' games," said Cape Coral field general Greg Diersing.
