Rainbow Mermaids Win at Home, 5-2
|
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids beat the Ft. Worth Cattlemen, 5-2, at Atlantica. Northern Virginia center fielder Leo Spaceman had an outstanding performance. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Duke Silver was the winner. Over 6 innings, he yielded 2 runs on 5 hits, with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. The win gives Northern Virginia a season record of 40-27.
Clifton Roberson had a big 2-run double for the Rainbow Mermaids in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Northern Virginia leading 2-1 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from Chase Davis, who finished 5th in the PL in wins with 11 in 2055, and swatted a double to right. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Rainbow Mermaids ahead, 4-1.
"This is a very good team," said Spaceman. "We have the chance to do something special."
