Hurricanes Suffer 5-3 Setback
|
The Charleston Battery had to overcome a fine effort from Cape Coral pitcher Lawrence Higgins to win, 5-3, at Charleston Armory. Higgins went 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Juan Carlos Mejía was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 25 of 25 save opportunities. The win puts Charleston at 66-37 this season.
Had Chad Ware not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Ware hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Battery.
Said Charleston manager Matt Hunt: "At the end of the day, these guys have to perform between the lines, and I think they did."
