Patriots Rally to Win, 2-1
|
The Boston Patriots racked up a win at Baltimore Grounds, bumping off the Baltimore Bullets, 2-1, in 10 innings. Mario Gonzáles, who started for Boston, pitched effectively for his team. The winner was Boston reliever Ron Murphy, now 3-1. The loser was Frank Vetter. With this game in the books, Boston is 41-28, Baltimore 34-35.
Boston used the timely hitting of Bill Meeks to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Patriots on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Bottom line," said Baltimore skipper Random Task, "we didn't play well enough to win."
