The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids defeated the Philadelphia Liberty, 8-2, at Atlantica. Northern Virginia first baseman José Mondragon had a superb performance. He was 4-4 with a home run and 2 doubles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Mitsuo Yoshida got credit for the win, improving to 6-7. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 6.2 innings. The Rainbow Mermaids improved their record to 34-36 by beating Philadelphia.

With Northern Virginia trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Mondragon hit a fastball from Al Ivey for a 2-run home run. It was his 18th home run of the season and put the Rainbow Mermaids ahead, 2-1.

"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Mondragon, "one at-bat at a time."
