Northern Virginia Wins, 6-5, Over Bullets
|
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids withstood an impressive performance by Baltimore third baseman Sammy Baldwin to defeat the Bullets, 6-5, at Atlantica. Baldwin went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Northern Virginia reliever Juan Carlos Mejía was the winner. His record is now 2-1. The losing pitcher was Toichi Kodo. The current losing streak for Baltimore has reached 4 games.
The decisive blow was delivered by José Mondragon in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a solo home run off 32-year old right-handed pitcher Toichi Kodo to win the game for Northern Virginia. The home crowd went nuts.
"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Mondragon. "You've got to get results."
