The Richland Rails and Asheville Highlanders played an exciting game.

The Asheville Highlanders got a sterling performance from pitcher Neil Smith, but the Richland Rails still prevailed, 4-2. Smith threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Richard Stevenson, credited with the win in relief, is now 2-0. He allowed 1 run on 7 hits in 6.1 innings. Justin Joseph sewed up the save, his 3rd.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Rails grabbed the lead when Maurice van Berkel rapped a two-out single. Richland was trailing 1-0, when van Berkel hit a 2-run single off Neil Smith to put his team in front, 2-1.

"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," van Berkel said.

The win gives Richland a season record of 17-11.
