Henderson Helps Pine Island Bombard Virginia Beach
|
The Pine Island Dolphins defeated the Virginia Beach Whales, 15-4, at Virginia Beach Grounds. Melvin Henderson, who is rated as the 27th best prospect by BNN, was a standout performer for Pine Island. His 4 hits included 3 singles and 1 double -- this in addition to the 2 runs he scored and 2 he knocked in. The 6th-place Dolphins go to 15-14.
Tied up with the Whales in the top of the sixth inning, the Dolphins got a boost from left fielder Jesús Longoria. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Longoria saw a 1-0 fastball from Tom Schaefer and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Pine Island on top, 4-3.
"The credit goes to our offense," said Pine Island manager Alfonso Dolton.
