Virginia Beach Whales pitcher Matt Whitfield was in fine form, leading his team past the Yakima Hops, 7-0. The winner was Whitfield. He threw 7.2 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Brian Wayland.

Victor Cals had a big 2-run triple for the Whales in the top of the fourth inning. With Virginia Beach leading 2-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Brian Wayland and swatted a triple to center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Whales ahead, 4-0.

"Winning never gets dull," said Whitfield.
