Hops Lose as Whales Stage Late Rally

Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Virginia Beach Whales got the win.
With first baseman Jung-heum Kim leading the charge, the Virginia Beach Whales defeated the Yakima Hops, 4-2, at Hops Park. Kim, who is tied for 4th in the 3AA with a .628 slugging percentage, went 2 for 5 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Virginia Beach reliever Rusty Russell picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Vaughn Collier took the loss.
Kim had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a 1-1 fastball from Vaughn Collier, he banged a 2-run home run to center, giving the Whales a 4-2 lead. It was the 7th home run of the year for Kim.
"This was a total team effort," said Kim.
The second-place Whales now have a win-loss record of 21-10.
