Yakima turned a fine outing from starter Ron Jackson into a victory over the Virginia Beach Whales at Hops Park. The final score was 8-1. The 9th-place Whales dropped to 16-17.

José Reyes hit a run-scoring triple off Barry St. John in the bottom of the seventh, which put the Hops in front, 2-1. Reyes had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 4.

"We'll need a much better effort, the next time out," said losing manager Wilson López.
