Whales Pop Dolphins, 9-2

Virginia Beach registered a win at Virginia Beach Grounds by beating the Pine Island Dolphins, 9-2. Pitcher Barry St. John was one reason why the Whales triumphed. St. John, now 3-2, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing no runs. Virginia Beach has an impressive 23-11 record.
Rover Diggins had a big 2-run double for the Whales in the bottom of the third inning. With Virginia Beach leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a splitter from 26-year old right-handed pitcher William Bishop and swatted a double to left. It was his 9th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Whales ahead, 3-0.
"We didn't pitch good, and when you don't pitch good, you lose," said Pine Island manager Alfonso Dolton.
