The Squirrel Hill Pierogis got a good effort from starter Xavier Martínez in defeating the Barton Springs Blues at Blues Field. The final score was 4-2. Martínez yielded no runs over 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. His record improves to 1-1. Cipriano Flores, who is rated as the 48th best prospect by BNN, earned the save for Squirrel Hill.
In the top of the third, Guillermo Rodríguez delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and the bases empty, the Squirrel Hill catcher hit a solo home run, putting the Pierogis in front, 4-2.
"Xavier made some good pitches in some situations he needed to make them in," said Squirrel Hill manager Ben Cooper.
The winning streak has now reached 5 games for the Pierogis.
