Highlanders Beat Yakima, 5-4
|
The Asheville Highlanders topped the Yakima Hops, 5-4, in 10 innings at Hops Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of Asheville pitcher Neil Smith. Asheville reliever Luis Villarreal got the win, raising his record to 1-1. Rob Baker was tagged with the loss. With the win over Yakima, the Highlanders improved to 29-19.
This game was not decided until Ameirin Javakhov came to bat in the top of the tenth. With runners on 1st and 3rd and one out, the Asheville center fielder grounded out, driving in 1 run. The Highlanders took the lead, 4-3.
"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said Asheville manager Chris Sanders.
