The Virginia Beach Whales picked up a win at Virginia Beach Grounds, knocking off the Tacoma Fur Traders, 6-3. Starting pitcher Miguel Martínez played a key role in the triumph. Jack Barr earned his 10th save, after closing out the game. The loss makes Tacoma 13-35.

In the bottom of the 5th, Virginia Beach took the lead on a 2-run double by Jeff Huffman. At the time, the Whales were trailing 3-2, but Huffman's hit with two outs against Tacoma pitcher Kent Nelson put them in front, 4-3.

"We came out on top and that's all I can ask for," said Martínez.
