The Ottawa Fat Cats topped the Virginia Beach Whales, 5-4, in M3L Double A action at Virginia Beach Grounds. The game was highlighted by the performance of Ottawa pitcher Lowell Martin. Martin, now 5-1, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing 4 runs. Picking up his 12th save was 26-year old right-handed pitcher Mark Wilson.

Luis Mata's at-bat in the top of the sixth was significant, coming with the bases loaded and the game tied, 3-3. The Ottawa shortstop hit a run-scoring single off Jim Lee to put the Fat Cats up.

"It's nice to come out on top today," said Martin.

Ottawa is third in the Menard's AA with a record of 29-21.
