Pine Island got a terrific game from designated hitter Jim Woods. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Asheville, 8-7. Woods was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Tommy Woods earned the save, his 3rd, for the Highlanders. With the win, Asheville upped its record to 32-20.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Ameirin Javakhov? The Asheville center fielder had a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Highlanders on top, 1-0. For the game, Javakhov had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"It wasn't our best performance," said Javakhov, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
