Pine Island starter Chris Pate clamped down on the Asheville offense, while his team sailed to victory, 11-1. Pate, now 2-2, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. The 9th-place Dolphins sport a record of 23-31.

Tied up with the Highlanders in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Dolphins got a boost from center fielder Salmon P. Chase. With the bases loaded, Chase saw a first pitch curveball from Ray Campbell and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Pine Island on top, 1-0.
