The Virginia Beach Whales picked up a win at Rails Ballpark, downing the Richland Rails, 9-2. On the mound for Virginia Beach was left-hander Matt Whitfield, who played a pivotal role in the win. Whitfield, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. At 21-34, the Whales claim 11th place in the Menard's AA.

Virginia Beach right fielder Fred Stone contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fourth. With two down, he hit a slider to left field for a 2-run single. It was his 16th hit of the season and put the Whales ahead, 6-0.
