Rails Suffer 4-1 Loss to Whales
|
The Virginia Beach Whales knocked off the Richland Rails, 4-1, in M3L Double A action at Rails Ballpark. Virginia Beach pitcher and Killeen, Texas, native Matt Whitfield had an outstanding performance. In 7.2 innings, Whitfield surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. Jack Barr was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
Daryl Kline was a prime contributor to the Virginia Beach win. He was 1 for 3 with a walk. In the top of the second with one out, the 25-year old shortstop hit a run-scoring single. It made the score 1-0, in favor of the Whales.
"Matt was able to execute his pitches," said Virginia Beach manager Wilson López. "Simple as that."
The Whales sit in 8th place in the Menard's AA with a record of 26-31.
