Casper Sent Home with 5-2 Loss
|
The Virginia Beach Whales picked up a win at Virginia Beach Grounds, defeating the Casper Ghosts, 5-2. Starting pitcher Mario González was an essential part of his team's success. González got the win, improving to 3-5. He gave up 9 hits and walked 4 over 7.1 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Virginia Beach, at 35-27, occupies 4th place in the Menard's AA.
Michael Mitchell had a big 3-run home run for the Whales in the bottom of the second inning. With Virginia Beach leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a sinker from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Mike Moore and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Whales on top, 4-0.
"Mario has got a slow heartbeat," said Virginia Beach manager Marv Bradford. "He doesn't panic or anything."
